Project Overview

Albertine Region Sustainable Development Project (ARSDP) Bursary Scheme

In a bid to improve regional and local access to infrastructure, markets and skills development in the Albertine Region, the Government of Uganda (GoU), through the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development received funding from the World Bank to implement the Albertine Region Sustainable Development Project (ARSDP). The project was composed of three components including:

  1. Regional access and connectivity.
  2. Local Access , Planning, and Development.
  3. Skills Access and Upgrading.

The third component; Skills Access and Upgrading was designed to upgrade Business, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET) quality to make it more in line with private sector demands and provide greater access to the BTVET system for people living in the Albertine Region. This was in line with the GoU 10 year strategic plan of reducing unemployment in the country through skilling Ugandans.

Under the component, the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) implemented a Bursary Scheme (fully financed by the Government of Uganda Counterpart Funding). The Bursary Scheme was designed to support learners from the Albertine Region to undergo skills training from accredited technical and vocational training institutions in the country.
